A. There is hereby established in the city of Everett the building division, which shall be under the jurisdiction of the building official, designated by the mayor.

B. There is hereby established in the city of Everett the fire department, which shall be under the jurisdiction of the fire chief, designated by the mayor. The fire marshal shall serve as the city’s fire code official. The fire code official’s authority and responsibilities shall be as assigned to him by the fire chief and as described in the International Fire Code. Notwithstanding any language in the International Fire Code, the fire chief is authorized to enforce the provisions of the International Fire Code, and the fire code official shall implement his or her authority and responsibilities under the direction of the fire chief.
